Emergency Broadcast - 15th May

Right then! If you’re a fan of female-fronted hardcore bands such as Filth is Eternal, Jivebomb and
Spaced, I have a question for you - why weren’t you at The Junction on Friday night? Did you not hear
the news? Did you not see the poster?? Do you live in the Outer Hebrides???

Okay, so now I’ve got that of my chest, you’re no doubt asking “What the hell is he raving about?”
Well, I don’t know about you, but I love it when you go to a gig and find yourself being unexpectedly blown away by one of the support bands, especially when it’s a band of which you were previously completely unaware. It’s a great way to suddenly discover your “latest favourite band” and it’s exactly what happened to me on Friday night.

Third up on a four-band ticket, ( Arbiter & Reality Check being the first two) and opening for totally excellent local hardcore heroes Mentality, were London-based Emergency Broadcast.

This truly superb hardcore four-piece consists of Mel Dirikoc (vocals), Yigit Yildirim (drums), Alexander Izbrodin (guitar) and Benediktas Leika (bass). Now, you’re probably thinking, “Those are some pretty exotic names for Londoners!”, but that would be because the band was actually established in Turkey in 2016. After relocating to London in 2023, Emergency Broadcast immediately started carving their name into the local hardcore scene and it seems people have definitely been paying attention.

Speaking of names, the band’s unifying principle of being “vegan straight edge” is reflected in their stylised Facebook and publicity moniker of “XEmergency BroadcastX”, which I have to admit, took me a while to figure out. Go on… Google “straight edge” and you shall be enlightened, or not… whatever!

Anyway, if you missed Emergency Broadcast in Plymouth, you still have a chance to redeem yourself as they are headlining at London’s New Cross Inn on July 14th, 2026, and are also confirmed for the Burn It Down Festival at The Foundry in Torquay on September 3rd, 2026. Are we good to you here at From the Pit or not?

Richard Hayward
